#TBT Becoming Insidestyle

Who is NOT stressed out right now?!! With everything going on, I am not sure whether I  should quit my profession and become a full time activist or to just GIVE UP and become a human doughnut.

Our daughter Aly graduated high school this week  in a near empty cafeteria full of gloved and masked strangers and our 2nd teenager Lola thinks we are purposely ruining her life by keeping her at home.  Everytime I turn on the news , a new shit show is going on and my heart is breaking. In a nutshell, THIS TOTALLY SUCKS!!!!!!!!!

So as a tiny diversion, I thought I would reflect and share with you a little about our journey to becoming Insidestyle and hopefully share a giggle or two.

Since our history is way too long to share in one sitting..I thought I would share it a little bit at at time each Thursday.

It’s been 32 years since this photo was taken!

In 1985!!! (WOW!) I secured my first design job in Newport Beach, California for $5. per Hour! ( and I remember I was thrilled lol)

My boss ( yes that’s her)  was “thirty and flirty”  but not so fond of working!  She spent all day shopping at Fashion Island Mall  while another newbie Ann and I were left to “work it out”…  At the end of the day, she would call us downstairs to unload her packages and usually this involved a “costume change.”

Some of her outfits were hysterical! ELF shoes that curled up at the toes with a little bell  come to mind…That was the first, but not the last time, I had to suppress a full blown belly laugh!  We managed to put the projects together with NO assistance from her but I finally lost patience when after a year many of my checks STILL bounced and on top of this we were always  fending off calls from angry vendors who wanted to be paid.. I made it a year “for my resume” but finally the happy day came when “I quit.”  I have SO many good stories about this job – I could write a book!

(This is Ann – my coworker pictured here in front of a Rolls Royce of a one date boyfriend.. lol That sloppy goodnight kiss still haunts me – so gross!!)

My next position was well over an hour and a half  drive each day ON A GOOD DAY  from Orange County to the Silicon Valley. My boss Patty was a real charmer with a large staff. Unfortunately, her business acumen was lacking and again, most of my checks bounced. On top of that, my direct manager  had TERRIBLE halitosis and we were always driving around together! Again, I survived just over a year.. The only good thing about that job was that they gave me my first cell phone and I talked all the way there and back on my brick sized device in my Mazda convertible. My bills were upwards of $500 a month! I thought I was SO COOL!

(To be continued)……See you next week!
