I Have a Pillow Problem
Alright, I confess, I have a pillow problem (shhh!). When I was at the Las Vegas World Market in July, I took several (and I mean several) pictures of pillows with different textures, dimensions, patterns, and colors…lots and lots of colors…
My forehead must be stamped: Pillows Find Me! Pillows. The question is how to really resolve my pillow problem? (Ha, who am I kidding???). I don’t see that happening anytime soon.
I love looking at different designs, and I love feeling different textures. Pillows provide inspiration to style an entire room… Needless to say, pillows are important to designers: they are cubs to a lioness!!!
Helpful tip: you should be able to unzip every pillow cover so you can take it to the dry cleaners. Because of the dusty desert weather here in Las Vegas, you should clean your pillows every 6-12 months, and if you’re in a condo or second home, you can get by with 12 months.
I took a photo of silky, soft pillows with neutral tones and a photo of soft, darker pillows with zebra prints and lace designs. Supplementing your bedrooms with lace or linens gives your room a custom look. Each style creates ideas for the bedding, surrounding furniture, accessories, wall colors, and more!
At least pillows are soft today because if you lived in Mesopotamia in 7,000 BCE, your head would be on a stone block to keep bugs out of your ears and hair (YUCK!). There are hotels, especially those that I am forced to stay in when traveling for clients to the High Point Market, and I LOVE beds to have cozy pillows. I have my own pillow that I affectionately called “Squishy.”
Looking at both of these pictures makes me want to jump on the bed and take a nap to cure this pillow problem…
Anyway, bedroom pillows will typically have 2 accent pillows that are just there for décor (like fine jewelry on a beautiful lady!!!), but beds also need pillows that have practical purposes like back support for lounging, resting, oh, and of course, sleeping.
Ahh yes, living room pillows. Again, we see two different styles that can inspire which accessories to detail the living room… A room would feel like something is missing without the pillows!!!
Living room pillows are meant to be comfortable for sitting and support in some way shape or form. The insert for the pillow is just as important as the pillow itself. Without the form, the pillow just doesn’t give that karate chop!!!
As if you hadn’t had enough of pillows yet, here’s some pillows for you! The first picture has pillows with neutral tones, but the jeweled embroidery really makes the pillows pop. In the second picture, I like the differences in the three patterns on the pillows. I love the tassels on the pillow in the last one (va va voom!).
Good thing we are ALLOWED to have pillows today because in the Middle Ages, people saw pillows as status symbols and even King Henry VIII banned people from having them!!!
I think I’ve soothed my problem with pillows by writing this blog post. 🙂 Well, at least for a little bit.
