Creating Open Spaces That Fit Together Like a Glove
Inside our most recent Las Vegas Summerlin home remodel
Finding a location with a beautiful view – inside and outside – definitely requires an interior designer and elbow grease, especially when it comes to desert designing. My newest interior design project involved an upper end track home in the Summerlin area here in Las Vegas.
My clients, Marsha and her hubby are a couple in their 30’s with no children, well they do have a Yorkshire terrier that could be considered ‘child.’ They moved to Vegas from LA to relocate their tech company. They love to entertain and have family come from out-of-town to visit. They wanted something nice but not so nice or expensive that they would be on pins and needles concerned that people or pets would be destroying their precious furnishings. Marsha and her husband love the beautiful Summerlin, Las Vegas location – especially the fact that it backed up to a canyon – but hated the interior structure.”
A large wine room cut the now “main room” right in two and served only that purpose. They hated almost everything about the interior design of the house, especially the major areas that really matter – the kitchen and bath cabinets and layouts, and even hated the flooring… basically what they wanted was a complete interior overhaul.
Here’s what the to-do list looked like:
(Spoiler Alert: It was a lot more work than it looks!):
Revamp and rebuild the kitchen
- Revamp and rebuild the master bath – making the shower larger by using some of the closet space.
- Create larger openings.
- Refloor the entire house.
- Add a window in the dining area.
- Add new lighting and furniture in the Great Room, office, and Master Bath area.
Ahhhhh……Isn’t the kitchen just gorgeous??! The kitchen is my favorite room – and Marsha’s favorite room too! Marsha loves the sink area with the window above it. I love the turned balustrades and all of the details in the kitchen…I really love the lighting and the color scheme… It’s not often I get to select WHITE and gray furniture… So elegant – but not for everyone….don’t worry…it’s not a new trend in my Vegas interior design style. That’s the great thing about working with a wide range of clients from all over the world. I have the privilege of doing a lot more than I could ever ask to do in my own personal space.
This bathroom looks fit for the Greek Gods!!! The marble makes the room feel polished, and gray streaks make it appear austere. The pink flowers add a splash of color! Ahhh…so relaxing. I also adore their choice to have a transparent shower with an overhanging shower head.
Now onto the master bedroom to complete the tour of this Summerlin master suite….
The contrast between the rustic, chestnut bed and the sky blue walls creates an open atmosphere. I love to color coordinate bedroom furniture with the colors of the walls and adding accessories too. The bigger opening to the bathroom looks so much more inviting….
So, you’re probably wondering what the living room looks like without the division of the wall. Here goes…
Connecting the dining room to the kitchen and living room completed the puzzle. The royal blue chairs in this dining room are fit for royalty!!! We don’t think about what we sit on very often, but unique chairs with interesting silhouettes can definitely add some taste to any room. My favorite piece in the room is the overhead lighting with the chandelier inside a wooden sphere. It’s glamorous yet refined.
Taking out the wine room that cut it in half created an endless, open space for guests and entertainment in the great room. The new wooden flooring and sofas complement each other quite well. I especially love the tree top table next to the black table because it naturally adds an organic flare to the room.
Last, but not least, the study. Look at that mammoth of a hand! It makes the room feel exciting and avant-garde. The spotted animal pelt with the dark, wooden flooring and wooden decorations makes the room feel rustic, yet modern.
We were able to recommend and work with a local contractor and with his recommendation on what walls could be moved or not – we were thrilled to hear it could all be done. I’m quite flattered that Marsha and her husband chose me to be their interior designer. 🙂 Marsha has a great sense of style and she is very decisive, which made it a wonderful project for all of us!
