3 THINGS TO GET BEFORE YOUR NEXT PARIS TRIP
Other than the power converter I mentioned in the last post, there are a few things you’ll want to grab (digitally, in three cases) to make your own Paris trip as marvelous as ours was!
1. UBER
This app is the most impressive taxi service ever. First you’ll need to download it from your app store. By just texting Uber you can get a “cab” almost immediately. Once you summon a car with your phone you will get a return text with a picture of your cab driver’s face saying something like… “Yes Ms. Abelman, I am approximately three minutes away.” And then you can actually SEE him on a GPS satellite map as the car comes towards you! We never had to wait more than 10 minutes.
The best part of Uber is that this “cab” is usually a Mercedes (our cab to the airport was a new Jaguar) and the drivers are well dressed in nice suits! (If you read my post about the way they do things there, you’ll see this is very Parisian!) Usually they even had bottled water and mints for us.
On top of all this, no cash has to be exchanged. Payments are made via PayPal, and the tip is included! It’s only slightly more than regular cab service but SOOOO much nicer! These drivers actually care about you and need your reviews to conduct great business considering most users have 4 star and above drivers in our Uber settings.
2. TWO DAY BUS PASS
A friend suggested we purchase a bus pass to get a feel for the city. It was a great tip! Forget everything you think about taking a bus in a US city. From the top of our double decker bus, we got to see the sights all over the city and the fare was all inclusive. You could jump on and off at each stop as you liked and the buses were plentiful!
There was a little box next to each seat where you could tune in to your own language for a “play-by-play” on each monument we passed. How else can you experience the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, and countless other sites on the same day?!
Marc likes to say he “drives the bus” for our interior design business in Las Vegas, so we had a lot of fun laughing about this that day!
3. INSTAGRAM
If you like to take pictures, you have to have Instagram! By very easily changing the settings you can take an ordinary picture to extra-ordinary! It is also another way to stay in touch with friends back home who will all be very jealous of your stay abroad and anxious to live vicariously through you.
Here are a few of my Instagram masterpieces while on our trip!
Bonus: The app we didn’t know about that could have prevented us from
eating dirty birds. Read about it here!
